VIRTUS Training Information and Fingerprinting
To find a training at another parish: Click HERE, and indicate that your organization is Los Angeles, San Fernando Region, then you will see a list of trainings in our area.
Protecting God's Children is the initial three hour training required in the VIRTUS Safeguard the Children Program. Parish employees, school parents, catechists, and parish ministers/volunteers are required to take this training. Every four years following, you must take the follow-up training "Keeping The Promise Alive" (or have kept up with the online trainings throughout the years - see below for more information).
Keeping the Promise Alive training is the 90 min. follow-up training in the VIRTUS Safeguard the Children Program. If it has been over four years (or close to four years) since your initial Protecting God's Children training, you are required to take this follow-up Keeping the Promise Alive training. Parish employees, school parents, catechists, and parish ministers/volunteers are required to stay current in their trainings.
Fingerprinting is required of paid personnel, school parents and church volunteers.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles strongly recommends that all VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children participants register on VIRTUS® Online.

- You will learn the latest information and resources on ways to protect children and young people from child sexual abuse.
- You will have a permanent record of your VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children session, date and location on VIRTUS® Online.
- Option #3: Recertification: If you go on VIRTUS® Online within one month of taking your Protecting God’s Children Session and read one VIRTUS® Participant Bulletin a month and take the short quiz at the end of each bulletin, in four years from the date on your VIRTUS® certificate, you can email the Office of Safeguard the Children at: [email protected] and you will be given an automatic Option #3 Recertification without attending additional classes
